On Friday, we hosted friends for a pickleball and pizza night, checking another item off of the summer bucket list. I was determined to keep it as simple as I could so that we would keep it up in the future. Everyone arrived around 6 and jumped onto courts with different partners and new friends. No agenda or brackets, just playing as many games as each person wanted. Around 7:30, we had Domino’s pizza delivered to the door — a mix of thin crust (an unexpected crowd favorite) and regular hand-tossed. Friends brought watermelon and Caesar salad, and instead of a special dessert, I bought a ton of favorite candies and tiny cookies from Trader Joe’s.
There was something incredibly nostalgic about Domino’s pizza and candy on a Friday night playing outside with friends. We set up a long table down the center of our dining room and into the family room for a game of LCR. If you haven’t played before, I definitely recommend it for a big group. Our family has played it for years at Christmas, and it always ends up with everyone standing around the table yelling for a left or a right to win the whole pot of cash. Regardless of the prize size, everyone gets so into it and ends in lots of laughing.
Hosting a social event that didn’t revolve around food or drink was refreshing. No one had to get dressed up or stay out late (we’re getting old!), but we had so much fun having a social activity on a Friday night. We’re hoping to make it (at least) monthly!
SHOPPING
The Lake Pajamas summer sale is happening now, and they always have some really great deals! The Pima Ruffle Nightgown is one of my favorites, and I love the Parisian green stripe that’s included in the sale. Live in my red and pink stripe midi nightgown. Have been wanting to try this set. And finally, love this floral robe (My mother-in-law gave me the blue and white stripe, and I never travel without it!)
I love the sweater tank I took to Chicago so much, that I have my eye on all things perfectwhitetee. I hear that the products really live up to the name.
Always browsing GAP online (which I find to be so much better than in person), and I am tempted to buy these on sale barrel jeans (I know, but I really do like this trend). I love this white puff-sleeve blouse and these little ruffle socks.
Still considering the trying red and mesh trends together in these flats.
COOKING
A non-recipe recipe we made this weekend: simple spring pasta. In a Dutch oven, I sautéed onions and garlic with chopped zucchini in butter until onion was soft and translucent. Then, I added thinly sliced zucchini, frozen peas, and corn off one cob and seasoned with salt and pepper. I added the cooked spaghetti, a little pasta water and about a cup of shaved parmesan into the Dutch oven, mixing until the noodles were well coated. We both agreed that the best part was toasted pine nuts on top for a little texture and toastiness!
I came across a tip to use ChatGPT for meal planning. I tested it out and included what ingredients we had at the house already, and it gave me several recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner for two people. I’m excited to play around with it when we’re back in town next week!
